The City of Hendersonville will break ground soon on a $360,000
skate park at Patton Park, making good on a project that was brought
to the city by teenagers who helped raise money for it.
The new skate park is designed to replicate a typical
city streetscape, with benches, ramps and rails to challenge
skaters’ skills. Located in Patton Park off of Asheville Highway,
the new facility is expected to become a major attraction for area
skaters, the city says.
The concept for a skate park in Hendersonville has
been under consideration since 2006. In 2007 the Council approved
funding and plans to move forward with construction, and received a
commitment from the Kids Alliance to Skate to raise $200,000 for the
project. Total cost of the project is $363,362.50. Today is the
first day of the contract to construct the new facility.

The contractor will handle most major facets of
construction, with fencing and landscaping to be installed by City
crews. The project was designed by Grindline Skate Parks of Seattle,
WA, with significant input from members of the Alliance to Skate.
