Frequently Asked
Questions
Will the kids be required
to wear safety gear at the park?
Yes. Besides being a
good idea, NC Senate Law 2003-334, passed in 2003, states that
(a) No operator of a skateboard park shall permit any
person to ride a skateboard therein, unless that person is wearing a
helmet, elbow pads, and kneepads.
Will the city be liable for any injuries at
the park?
Basically, no. NC Senate Law 2003-334 also states that once certain
provisions are met, skaters are engaging in a hazardous activity at their
own risk. Prior to the passage of this law, many NC cities were
unwilling to consider skate parks for fear of liability. This law
alleviates those concerns.
Who will pay for the park?
This project is being funded through a joint venture between government
and private funding. We already have committments for $200,000.
We still need $100,000 more to reach our goal. Please
